Tooro Prime Minister Drops Deputies, Ministers in Cabinet Reshuffle

Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki has dropped his two deputies and several ministers in a cabinet reshuffle that signals a reorganisation of the kingdom’s administration under the new monarch, Omukama Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I.

Those affected include Deputy Prime Ministers Henry Basaliza, who was in charge of Foreign Affairs and Interkingdom Cooperation, and Harriet Nyakake, who oversaw Culture.

Also dropped are former Education and Sports Minister Francis Divine Kateeba and former Tourism Minister Joan Else Kantu, among other ministers.

Announcing the new cabinet at Muchwa Kingdom Headquarters on Wednesday evening, Rwomiire said the changes were intended to strengthen coordination, accountability and service delivery as the kingdom implements the monarch’s reform agenda.

Rwomiire, who was retained as interim Prime Minister for six months to oversee the transition following the death of former king Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV, said the kingdom needed a united administration with clearly defined responsibilities.

He warned that internal divisions and overlapping mandates could undermine the kingdom’s priorities at a time when expectations of the new administration were high.

The Prime Minister called on the newly appointed officials to work collectively under the authority of the king and focus on the kingdom’s development agenda.

The reshuffle comes weeks after Omukama Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I was crowned on September 29, 2026, marking the beginning of a new phase in the kingdom’s leadership.
