The campaign was launched on Thursday at Biharwe Playground, where PLU Director of Mobilisation and Igara East Member of Parliament Michael Maranga Mawanda called on Ugandans to support Gen. Muhoozi’s anticipated presidential bid.
Mawanda expressed confidence that Gen. Muhoozi would sustain the legacy of his father, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, whom he praised for achievements in socio-economic transformation, infrastructure development, peace and stability.
He cited improvements in Uganda’s road network, saying journeys from Kabale or Mbarara to Kampala that previously took several days because of poor roads had become easier under Museveni’s leadership.
Mawanda also revealed plans attributed to Gen. Muhoozi to upgrade Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara City to modern standards, with the aim of enabling it to host major events and attract tourists.
The launch attracted PLU supporters, religious leaders, political leaders and residents from Mbarara City and neighbouring areas.
Alongside the mobilisation activities, organisers held a free medical camp where residents received medical assessments and were diagnosed with various conditions. The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) also provided services to help residents access National Identity Card services and present their concerns.
PLU Ankole Sub-region spokesperson Polly Katwire Kalamuzi, who also serves as an Assistant Resident City Commissioner for Mbarara City, thanked Gen. Muhoozi for supporting the community through the provision of free medical services.
Kalamuzi said the initiative would help residents access medical attention and improve their health. He urged Ugandans not to focus exclusively on politics but also to prioritise hard work and activities that improve their livelihoods.
Former Mbarara District LC5 chairperson Didas Tabaro Tumwesigye, the PLU deputy coordinator for the Ankole Sub-region, urged supporters to maintain discipline and respect as they mobilise support for Gen. Muhoozi.
Sharon Matsiko, head of the PLU Prayer Warriors, expressed confidence in Gen. Muhoozi’s leadership, saying the group hoped he would fight corruption, which she claimed he had already begun addressing.
The PLU, chaired by Gen. Muhoozi, says the nationwide signature drive is intended to build support for his proposed candidacy in the 2031 presidential election.
