The President made the call while presiding over the thanksgiving ceremony of the Minister of Internal Affairs and Sheema County South Member of Parliament, Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu, at Bugongi Town Council Playground in Sheema District.
Museveni identified coffee growing, fruit farming, dairy farming, food crop production, poultry keeping, piggery and fish farming as viable enterprises for residents of Sheema and the wider Ankole Sub-region.
He urged households to select enterprises based on available resources, local conditions and market opportunities rather than engaging in activities without a clear plan for generating income.
The President said household income generation was central to socioeconomic transformation and encouraged residents to take advantage of government programmes designed to move households into the money economy.
He cited beneficiaries of the Parish Development Model (PDM) in Rubirizi, Butambala and other parts of the country who, he said, had reported progress in their wealth creation efforts after joining the programme.
Museveni expressed optimism that the PDM would achieve its objectives as more households embraced productive investments, proper financial planning and sustainable income-generating activities.
He also urged residents to adopt the four-acre model, encouraging farmers to integrate suitable agricultural enterprises and make strategic use of available land to maximise productivity and diversify household incomes.
The President said coordinated farming could help households improve agricultural output, strengthen their economic stability and build sustainable livelihoods.
Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa highlighted government interventions in the region, including industrialisation initiatives, road construction and plans relating to refugee settlements.
Tayebwa cited the allocation of five square miles of land in Ruhengyere and road infrastructure projects, including works on the Buzibwera road stretch, as part of the development efforts he attributed to the government.
Meanwhile, Prof. Kamuntu called for stronger capacity within Uganda’s security institutions through the adoption of modern technology, artificial intelligence and forensic services.
Speaking at his thanksgiving ceremony, the minister said tools such as DNA testing, CCTV surveillance and canine units could improve crime prevention, detection and investigation.
He expressed confidence that the effective use of modern technology would strengthen the capacity of security agencies to combat crime, urging security personnel to remain committed to protecting citizens and maintaining law and order.
The ceremony brought together government officials, political leaders and residents to celebrate Prof. Kamuntu’s service and reflect on development priorities in Sheema District.
