Bushenyi Female Health Workers Mark Independence Day with Football Tournament

Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality female health workers have won the 2026 Bushenyi District Female Health Workers Football Tournament after defeating their counterparts from Igara East 2-0 in the final.

The tournament, which ran for three months, climaxed at Bushenyi Main Stadium as part of activities to mark Uganda’s 64th Independence Anniversary, with health workers participating in different sporting disciplines.

Bushenyi District Woman MP Annet Katusiime Mugisha, who officiated at the final match, commended the health workers for embracing physical exercise and setting an example for the public.

Katusiime said participation in sports promotes physical fitness and healthy living, urging more people to incorporate regular exercise into their daily routines.

She pledged to lobby the government to provide a standard sports pitch for Bushenyi District to promote sporting activities and nurture talent among residents.

Bushenyi District Health Officer Dr Steven Twinomugisha said the tournament had provided an opportunity for health workers from different areas to interact outside their professional duties.

He said such engagements strengthen social ties and teamwork among health workers, which are important in improving collaboration within the health sector.

The tournament brought together female health workers from different parts of the district in a competition aimed at promoting physical fitness, social interaction and sports as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
