Police arrest woman, hunt suspect in Afrigo Band musician’s death

Police have arrested a woman and launched a manhunt for another suspect in connection with the suspected murder of Afrigo Band musician Matovu Moses in Kampala.

Matovu died on Thursday, September 24, after he was allegedly attacked at Kibuli Depot in Makindye Division, Kampala District.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Kawala Racheal, preliminary investigations indicate that the musician went to the residence of his girlfriend at about 5:30am.

Police said Moses and the woman were allegedly confronted by a man who is suspected to have previously been in a relationship with the same woman as they were leaving the residence.

Kawala said preliminary information obtained after the arrest of the woman suggests that the incident may have followed a physical altercation.

However, she said detectives were still working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the confrontation and the events that led to the musician’s death.

Matovu  sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Kibuli Hospital by a boda boda rider, where he later died.

The woman who was with the deceased remains in police custody and is assisting detectives with the investigation.

Police said the male suspect has been positively identified but is believed to have fled the scene. Detectives are pursuing him to secure his arrest and establish his role in the incident.

Kawala said investigators are also verifying the different accounts surrounding the incident and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.

She appealed to the public to remain calm and allow investigators to conduct their work without interference.
