The body, believed to be that of a man aged about 20, was discovered on October 9 on a farm in Mpasha Parish, near a swamp.
According to Rwizi Regional Police spokesperson SP Samson Kasasira, a child who had gone to collect firewood on the farm belonging to Beatrice Mwongyera discovered the body at about 11am and alerted local council leaders, who subsequently notified police.
Police officers who visited the scene found the body in an advanced state of decomposition. The deceased was wearing tight trousers but had no shirt, while his right arm had been completely severed from the shoulder.
The scene was documented before the body was taken to Ruhoko Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Preliminary observations by investigators indicate that the man may have been killed elsewhere before his body was dumped at the farm, although investigations are ongoing.
Police are working to establish the deceased’s identity and the circumstances surrounding his death, as well as identify and apprehend those responsible.
