The initiative, funded by the club, involved marking pedestrian crossing points and sensitising boda boda riders on safe riding practices.
ASP Mustafa Juma, the Traffic Officer in charge of the Bushenyi-Ishaka road stretch, urged motorists and boda boda riders to observe traffic regulations, avoid speeding and prioritise the safety of passengers and pedestrians.
Juma said reckless driving and speeding contribute to road crashes, calling on road users to exercise discipline and respect traffic signs to reduce accidents.
Julian Mugarura, president of the Rotary Club of Nakasero Central, said the zebra-crossing initiative was intended to enhance pedestrian safety and reduce the risk of accidents, particularly in busy trading centres.
Mugarura reaffirmed the club’s commitment to community-based interventions aimed at protecting lives and improving public welfare.
In a related community outreach activity, the Rotary Club of Nakasero Central, in partnership with Nsambya Hospital, is scheduled to hold a free medical camp on Saturday at St Paul’s Kibaare Church of Uganda in Bushenyi District.
Mugarura said specialised medical personnel would provide services for various health conditions and urged residents to attend and benefit from the exercise.
The activities form part of the club’s community service efforts focused on road safety and access to healthcare.
