Police Investigate Death of 19-Year-Old Housemaid in Kasese

KASESE — Police in Kasese District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 19-year-old housemaid whose body was discovered at her employer’s residence in Kasese Municipality.

The deceased has been identified as Kabugho Sachesse, a resident of Kamaiba Lower Cell in Central Division, Kasese Municipality.

According to police, Sachesse was found dead in her bedroom at about 8 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026.

Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, said preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased may have died by suicide.

Maate said police visited and documented the scene, recorded statements from witnesses and conveyed the body to Kasese Municipal Health Centre III mortuary, where it is awaiting a postmortem examination.

Police established that Sachesse had been employed as a housemaid by Kibirige Issa, a 57-year-old driver and resident of Kamaiba Lower Cell.

The motive behind the suspected suicide remains unknown as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.

Maate has urged members of the public experiencing emotional or personal difficulties to seek support from trusted relatives, friends or relevant authorities rather than resorting to suicide.

Police have also appealed to members of the public with information that could assist in establishing the circumstances surrounding the death to come forward.
