Man killed in Ibanda, police launch manhunt for attackers

Police in Ibanda District have launched a manhunt for unknown assailants who killed a man in Nyamarebe Sub-county, Ibanda North, early Thursday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Godwin Namara, a resident of Rwenkuba Cell, whose body was found lying along a road in the area.

According to the Nyamarebe Sub-county LC3 chairperson, Penenah Rwakisa Orikiriza, Namara sustained a severe injury to the head and was also strangled.

Orikiriza said Namara, who was originally from Burunga Sub-county in Kazo District, had lived in Rwenkuba for nearly four years, where he worked as a casual labourer.

She said Namara was last seen alive at Rwenkuba Trading Centre on Wednesday evening before his body was discovered along the road the following morning.

Orikiriza described the deceased as a peaceful and well-behaved resident who had no known disputes with his neighbours.

She said the attack occurred in an isolated section of the road, away from nearby homes, leaving residents shocked and concerned about their safety.

Orikiriza also said the incident was the second murder reported in Bihanga Parish in recent weeks. In an earlier incident, a man was reportedly beheaded in Nyabigoye Cell.

She appealed to security authorities to investigate the killings and strengthen security in the area.

The latest killing comes days after Inspector General of Police Abbas Byakagaba pledged to deploy additional officers to Ibanda and Kazo districts following a series of violent killings.

By the time of filing this report, the body was still at the scene awaiting police removal for a postmortem examination as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death continued.
