Large numbers of Ugandans have turned up at Lake Mburo National Park for the first day of the Open Park Days, an initiative aimed at promoting domestic tourism and raising public awareness about wildlife conservation.

The visitors are exploring the park’s wildlife and natural attractions as part of efforts to encourage Ugandans to experience and appreciate the country’s natural heritage.

The initiative has also received support from communities neighbouring the park, with residents commending the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) for its efforts to address human-wildlife conflicts.

The communities said measures to reduce conflicts between people and wildlife are important in protecting livelihoods while promoting the conservation of wildlife and other natural resources.

The Open Park Days are intended to give Ugandans an opportunity to visit national parks, learn about wildlife conservation and appreciate the economic and environmental value of protected areas.

Lake Mburo National Park, one of Uganda’s protected areas, is known for its diverse wildlife and is a popular destination for domestic and international tourists.

Organisers say the initiative will help strengthen public interest in domestic tourism while encouraging communities and visitors to support wildlife conservation.
