Man Arrested with Three Suspected Stolen Goats in Rubanda

Police in Rubanda District have arrested an 18-year-old man found in possession of three goats suspected to have been stolen, as investigations into the ownership of the animals continue.

The suspect, Akanyijuka Timothy, a resident of Hamuhambo Town Council, was arrested at about 5am on Tuesday during an intelligence-led operation, according to police.

Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime said the suspect was intercepted while driving the goats without proof of ownership or a livestock movement permit.

Akanyijuka is being held at Rubanda Police Station as police investigate the case.

Tumushime urged residents whose goats have recently been stolen to report to the station to help identify the recovered animals.

He also cautioned the public against buying livestock without verifying ownership and ensuring that the required movement permits have been obtained from the relevant local authorities.

Police said the suspect is being investigated over suspected possession of stolen livestock, an offence cited under Section 254 of the Penal Code Act.
