Rwenzori East Police warn motorists as schools reopen for third term

Police in Rwenzori East Region have warned motorists against reckless driving as schools prepare to reopen for the third term, with increased traffic expected as learners return to school.

Rwenzori East Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate urged motorists and other road users to plan their journeys carefully and strictly observe the Highway Code to minimize road crashes.

He cautioned drivers against speeding, overloading and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, saying such offences endanger learners and other road users.

Police have also urged motorists to ensure that vehicles transporting learners are in good mechanical condition before embarking on journeys.

ASP Maate said motorists should exercise greater caution during the school-opening period because of the increased movement of children and vehicles on the roads.

He warned that police would not tolerate indiscipline by motorists or other road users, saying officers would enforce traffic laws to protect life and property and maintain law and order.

He called on parents, drivers, school authorities and other road users to cooperate with police and prioritise the safety of learners as they return to school.
