Bishop Mwesigwa said greater investment in vocational education would help address youth unemployment by giving graduates skills that can enable them to compete for jobs, start businesses and become self-reliant.
He made the remarks during the sixth graduation ceremony of Ruharo Vocational Training Institute, where 432 students graduated with certificates and diplomas in various disciplines.
The Bishop urged parents to pay greater attention to the courses their children pursue, encouraging them to consider programmes that provide practical and marketable skills capable of improving their employment prospects after graduation.
He also commended vocational training institutions for introducing courses that equip learners with relevant practical skills, particularly in response to technological developments and changing labour market demands.
Bishop Mwesigwa said the government, education institutions and parents all have a role to play in ensuring young people acquire skills that can translate into meaningful employment and entrepreneurship.
Meanwhile, the Principal of Ruharo Vocational Training Institute, Madari Peter, urged the graduands to remain disciplined, hardworking and committed to their respective professions.
Madari also cautioned the graduates to prioritise their health, noting that diseases such as HIV/AIDS remain a concern in society.
The graduands thanked God and their parents for supporting them throughout their education.
